What first got you interested in herbal medicine?

As a young adult, my GP failed to improve the digestive issues and fatigue I frequently experienced. I was a young woman but didn't feel able to fully experience life because I was always tired and despite being active and weighing around 8st, I was often uncomfortably bloated and looking forward to going to an early night.

So, I started looking for answers outside of the UK standard model of healthcare. I found herbal medicine and food were my allies after regaining my health through simple adjustments to my diet and lifestyle. This included using herbal medicine, starting with herbs I grew in the garden such as thyme, garlic, and rosemary that I used as medicine and for cooking. I do remember however trying to make rosewater out of rose petals when I was a little girl in my garden; my mother was not impressed but I hope she can see the funny side now!

Who do you admire in the wellness community?

This is a really difficult question. There are so many people. I feel that naming some excludes too many important people who are also doing a fabulous job sharing their gifts and services with the world.

I would have to say the world-renowned herbalist, Rosemary Gladstar is someone I admire. I've never had the privilege of meeting this amazing lady but I've watched so much of her material I feel like she's a member of my family! There are of course many others who are not herbalists such as David 'Avocado' Wolfe (who I have had the pleasure of meeting), Dr Aviva Romm (herbalist, midwife, MD), Kriss Carr, Suzanne Humphries, Gabriel Cousens, Dr Mercola, Annemarie Gianni; I could go on and on. I may have to create a spreadsheet to answer this more fully!

What’s the one thing you would tell your childhood self?

Treat yourself with the same love, patience, compassion, and respect that you show to others.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

My family, birds singing, sunshine, gratitude, and possibilities.
